Services Exports for Growth & Development: Case Studies from Africa

PROJECTS

Trade in business services is one of the fastest areas of growth in international trade. The report analyzes the sector specific structure of service trade in Africa as well as the policies that contribute to its success. The report has as an objective to promote greater knowledge of  “best practices” for service trade as a base for service sector growth and regional integration.

The section of the report written by our staff member Sekou Falil Doumbouya in collaboration with Abdoulaye Ndiaye and David Primack analyzes the structure and performance of the Senegalese ICT and BPO industry to identify factors that directly contribute to the success of the sector in Senegal. The study evaluates export constraints at the level of both regional and global competitiveness and concludes with a series of recommendations that build from lessons and best practices on the ground.

The African Union commissioned the report under the leadership of the Commissioner of Trade H.E. Mrs. Fatima Haram Acyl.
